Summer Visit to Acadia

I’ve just returned from my annual late Spring/ early Summer visit to Acadia. The main reason for the visit was to attend the Art in the Park fair in Bar Harbor over Father’s Day weekend. I’ve had a booth there since 2016 and it’s always a lot of fun to put up several of my large prints, including a 40x60-inch metal print, which is always popular…

Autumn in Acadia 2025 Photo Workshop

It’s that time of the year again! Registration is now open for my Images of Acadia landscape photography workshop. An annual tradition since 2018, we’ll spend five days together, rising early each day to (hopefully!) catch a spectacular sunrise, then spend the rest of the daylight hours seeking the best light and best colors we can find. Acadia is known as one of the most colorful and beautiful locations in the country for Fall foliage, and in eighteen years of photographing in Acadia, I’ve never known it to disappoint.

Medium Format Magazine

I’m no stranger to medium format photography, having bought my first camera forty years ago in October 1984 (a Lubitel 166B Soviet made camera, but only £17.95!). In the intervening years, I’ve owned Hasselblad, Pentax and Fujifilm MF film cameras and a Pentax digital camera, but I’ve recently become dissatisfied with my Pentax 645Z– it’s been a great camera, but lens quality could be iffy and I never could find a really sharp telephoto lens. So in August I bought into the Fujifilm GFX system with a new GFX100SII.

Acadia Workshop 2024

In October 2024, I had seven photographers from all over the country join me in Acadia. This year they came from New Hampshire (x2), Maine, Colorado, Illinois, and Massachusetts (x2). One was returning after joining me before in 2022, and another became my first 3x attendee (2019, 2023 and 2024). There was a lot of excitement in the air as we met on our first afternoon, went through introductions, then headed out for the first excursion of the week. All together, we would go on about twenty-five excursions over the next five days.

The 3rd edition of my popular Photographer’s Guide to Acadia is now listed on Tim’s website and I’m looking forward to partnering with him.

Review: the 2023 Photography Workshop

The 2023 workshop wrapped up a couple weeks ago, after five days of early wake up calls, shooting the sunrise through to the sunset, and exploring the park with our cameras. We had a full continent of eight photographers, plus our ‘special guest’ and my good friend Adam Pratt (formerly of Adobe Systems), who is a wealth of knowledge in all things Photoshop and Lightroom, or anything else in the Adobe realm.
